Washroom Supplies with Caswells

When you think about the impression that your business leaves with your visitors and your staff, you might think of a welcoming atmosphere, the lovely coffee in the staff room, or your friendly reception team — but what about your washroom? In this blog, the Caswells team explain how a well-stocked washroom can be the unexpected jewel in the crown of your reputation!

The Benefits of a Well-Maintained Washroom

Although it may sound like a small issue, making sure that your workplace washrooms are well-stocked and clean at all times can make a big difference to staff morale. A spotless and welcoming washroom not only signifies your attention to detail, but also demonstrates to your people that you care about their comfort. It can also make a great first impression on visitors and customers who may need to use your facilities, particularly if you make an effort to provide items that may be required urgently such as sanitary products.

As the COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated, keeping your workplace clean is vital for both the health of your people and the proper functioning of your business. Ensuring that you are providing adequate opportunities to sanitise, wash hands, and take care of hygiene should be a top priority.

Washroom Products: Variety and Value

There are almost 200 washroom products in the Caswells range, from hand dryers to toilet tissue. Our online catalogue provides options to filter by product category, brand, price, box quantity, and many more subcategories, allowing you to find exactly what you need in our extensive selection. We can provide both luxury and more basic products, helping you to tailor your washroom to suit your budget and your premises. Not only do we stock every washroom consumable your facilities might need, but we also offer products to help keep your washroom functioning at its cleanest (including urinal caps, germicides, and washroom cleaning charts).

Simpler Recycling: New Recycling Legislation for businesses

Recycling legislation is changing in the UK for businesses of over 10 full-time employees.

Simpler Recycling will transform recycling in England by standardising waste collection and introducing separate streams for recyclable materials, reducing general waste and increasing recycling overall.

What is changing with Simpler Recycling?

For most businesses, the biggest change will be that you can no longer use a general waste bin for all your waste. If you are currently disposing of any of the following recyclable materials in general waste, then you will need to separate them out and arrange for a collection.

The implementation timelines for Simpler Recycling are:

·       By 31 March 2025, businesses and relevant non-domestic premises in England will need to arrange for the collection of the core recyclable waste streams, with the exception of garden waste (glass, metal, plastic, paper and card, and food waste)

·       micro-firms (businesses with fewer than 10 full-time equivalent employees) will be temporarily exempt from this requirement. They will have until 31 March 2027 to arrange for recycling of core recyclable waste streams

·       by 31 March 2026, local authorities will be required to collect the core recyclable waste streams from all households in England. This includes introducing weekly food waste collections for most homes, unless a transitional arrangement applies

·       by 31 March 2027, kerbside plastic film collections from businesses and relevant non-domestic premises, and households will be introduced

How can Caswells help?

We have a large selection of waste management products to help you get legislation ready in time for the March 31st deadline.

Hearing Protection with Caswells: The Great Big Hearing Test

At Caswells, we are passionate about providing the highest quality protective equipment for your workforce. This January, we want to draw your attention to The Great Big Hearing Test and explain how Caswells can help you to meet your obligations to safeguard your staff and their hearing.

What is The Great Big Hearing Test?

Launched by Boots Hearingcare for 2025, The Great Big Hearing Test is an awareness month that encourages anyone who notices hearing changes or loss to book a hearing test. According to research cited in the campaign, one in six British people will wait for over a decade to test their hearing after first noticing a decline. To combat this, Boots Hearingcare offer free hearing tests which can be completed in only 15 minutes, and they are raising awareness about hearing loss throughout January.

Hearing Protection: Employer Obligations

Caswells are supporting this vital cause in workplaces across the UK by highlighting your legal responsibilities as an employer, and explaining how you can meet them. The rules around hearing protection and noise levels in the workplace are governed by The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005, which apply to all industry sectors.

·       If noise in the workplace reaches 80 decibels (average daily/weekly exposure), an employer is required to provide training and information to their workers about avoiding hearing loss. Most alarm clocks produce around 80 decibels.

·       If the noise in the workplace reaches 85 decibels (average daily/weekly exposure), employers are expected to provide hearing protection equipment and introduce hearing protection zones. 85 decibels can be comparable to the noise produced by a blender.

·       Average daily/weekly exposure to noise in the workplace should not exceed 87 decibels, which can factor in the reduction in noise that hearing protection provides. At this level of noise, the decibels produced are similar to those produced by a motorcycle.

Hearing Protection with Caswells

At Caswells, we stock almost 80 different products designed to provide hearing protection in the workplace! Our catalogue includes both disposable and reusable ear plugs, ear defenders, and even an ear plug fit testing kit. These products can be filtered by SNR rating (Single Number Rating, which represents how many decibels the equipment can reduce noise by) to help you choose exactly the right fit for your people and your environment. Remember, if your workplace exceeds 85 decibels on a daily or weekly average, you are legally obligated to provide protective equipment. Hearing loss can be irreversible and devastating, and The Great Big Hearing Test provides the perfect opportunity to check that your staff are adequately safeguarded.

You can browse our entire collection of hearing protection here or contact the Caswells sales team here and they will be happy to help you.

Teesside firm makes second acquisition in two years with North West expansion

Teesside-based Caswells Group has made its second acquisition in two years, purchasing Macclesfield-based Cutler Cleaning for a six-figure sum.

Founded in 1972, Caswells Group has spent over 50 years supplying businesses across the country with PPE, janitorial, safety and hose/hydraulic supplies, and has now acquired Cutlers which was founded in 1982, for £1.6million - retaining all 25 of its staff.

Commercial Director at Caswells, Paul Murphy explains: “We have worked with Cutlers for around 10 years as Jangro colleagues and we share a similar business ethos. There is a complimentary skill set, our teams have worked together closely and like us, the business has a loyal, long standing customer base, so it made perfect sense. We’re excited for this next chapter and can’t wait to work with the team.”

Cutler Cleaning has an annual turnover of £4.5million, as well as 10 vehicles and a 14,000sq ft warehouse, stocking all manner of cleaning, janitorial and PPE supplies.

Paul Whitehead, previous managing director at Cutlers said: “I had been looking to retire and sell the business, but wanted to protect the interests of our customers and staff during that process. We have worked with Caswells for many years and I know that this is a positive move which will ensure the ongoing success of the business and be of great benefit to both sides.”

Caswells Group was advised by Anderson Barrowcliffe and Knights Plc, and Cutler Cleaning was advised by Higgs LLP.

Caswells supports many local charities including Butterwick Hospice and The Moses Project, and made numerous donations of PPE and sanitising products to causes and local hospitals during the Covid19 pandemic.

Fireworks and Fire Retardants: Flame-Resistant Garments

Whilst Bonfire Night is an exciting and entertaining time of year, it also brings fire safety into focus. Did you know that fire and rescue services in the UK attend 50% more emergencies on November 5th than on any other night of the year? Accidents can easily happen around fire and extreme heat, even in a professional environment, so the right protection is vital. In this blog, the Caswells team are highlighting our extensive range of flame-resistant garments, keeping your people safe from fire-related injuries.

In a dangerous environment, having correctly fitting protective clothing that is designed to suit an individual’s body can provide the best possible protection against workplace injuries — the only difference between men’s and women’s styles is the specific cut of the garment.

Tops and Jackets
There are over 170 products in the Caswells flame-resistant garment range, including bodywarmers, coveralls, fleece jackets, traditional jackets, polo shirts, shirts, sweatshirts, t-shirts, vests and waistcoats. These garments are available in both hi-vis options, and darker, more formal colours, allowing you to design a safe and comfortable uniform that suits the needs of your workplace.
